Peta's Story

“I remember as a young child one of my most favourite things to do was sit quietly on the carpet behind one of the tall dark wood counters in my father’s fine jewellery boutique and explore the bank of velvet-lined drawers that towered above me. Each draw held beautiful treasures. Smooth, luminous pearls from the waters of Japan. Supple sterling silver necklaces and bracelets from the craftsmen in Germany. Chunky timepieces with colourful retro dials. Hand-stitched leather watch straps. Of course, the most valuable pieces were safety locked in glass cabinets above my head but as I grew older I graduated to having access to the keys for the brass locks that opened my world to gold, platinum and gemstones. Thus began a passion for fine jewellery that burns to this day.”

Peta Morrison studied gemology at the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, California. At the GIA, she went on to study jewellery design under the tutelage of Robert Ahrens, former head jewellery designer of famed jewellery house Van Cleef & Arpels.  Peta has a couple of jewellery design awards to show for her hard work and creativity. She is always happy to discuss the creation of custom made jewellery pieces or the remodelling of a piece that you no longer wear.

Morrisons' Family Heritage

Morrisons is an 80 year old family business started by Charles Alexander Morrison in Wynberg, Cape Town in 1946. He was joined in the business by his two sons Vere and Sean Morrison and their wives Carrol and Karene. The family had bricks-and-mortar stores in Wynberg, Constantia and Meadowridge.Peta, Vere Morrison's daughter, has taken the reins from her father and remains committed to the same level of quality and inspirational design so evident in her father's work. Vere is a founder member of the Jewellery Association of South Africa and Morrisons remains a proud member of the Jewellery Council of South Africa.

Peta's Mission

"Morrisons was founded on the principles of honesty and quality. I'm building on that by keeping our designs locally made by highly skilled local artisans. In a world of fast fashion and cheap imports, my brand is about authenticity and intention. Each piece is created with our clients in mind, jewellery designs that capture the imagination and heart, and are comfortable to wear. I have always loved the tactile experience of fine jewellery. The presence and weight of precious metals. The luminosity and fire of gemstones and the sophistication of expert craftsmanship. Each of our pieces is a sort after treasure, whether a celebration of self or a keepsake that marks your precious milestones. It is my honour to create jewellery that is forever linked to your cherished memories.

Peta's Vision

My vision is a jewellery industry that is sustainable and ethical. Staying hands on through the whole jewellery making process from design to store enables me to make sure that my gemstones are ethically sourced and my precious metals are the correct karatage. The use of precious metals means that our jewellery is, not only valuable, but these are materials that can be refurbished, repair and remodelled.
